Robert Kardashian died of throat cancer in 2003

Khloé Kardashian has been an open book when it comes to discussing O.J. Simpson in the wake of the recently-premiered series American Crime Story: The People v. O.J. Simpson.

In a sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode of Kocktails with Khloé, the star speculates whether her late father Robert Kardashian‘s role as part of Simpson’s defense team in the 1994 murder trial may have affected his health.

“What I do respect is no matter what my dad knew or didn’t know [about the case], my dad never, ever would betray his friend [O.J. Simpson]’s trust and he never spoke about it,” Kardashian, 31, says of her dad, who died in 2003 just eight weeks after being diagnosed with esophageal cancer.

During a discussion with Lisa Rinna, Straight Outta Compton‘s Marlon Yates Jr., Rush Hour‘s Kirk Fox and YouTube sensation GloZell Green, Kardashian goes on to point out that throat cancer doesn’t run in their family and her father didn’t smoke or drink.

“I just think holding in secrets – stress kills you,” she says. “So you manifest things … I don’t know, I’m into symbolic situations.”

Real Housewives of Beverly Hills star Rinna, 52, chimes in, noting that other people who defended Simpson in the trial also suffered tragedy, such as main defense attorney Johnnie Cochran, who died of brain cancer in 2005, as well as Robert Shapiro, whose son Brent died from an MDMA overdose in 2005.

“I mean, I don’t know but you think of that – You look at it and go, ‘Wow,’ ” Rinna says, breathing in deeply.

In another clip from Wednesday’s episode, Kardashian expands on the tough times her family experienced at the time of the trial.

“The cops hated us ’cause my dad was defending O.J. Simpson,” Kardashian recalls, explaining that they would get kicked out of restaurants and find the word “guilty” keyed all over their cars. (Kardashian touched on the same topic during a recent appearance on The Late Late Show with James Corden.)

“Cops hated us,” Kardashian reiterates. “Like if they would run our plates, we would get pulled over for anything and everything.”

“But look at y’all now!” says Yates, raising his glass to the group as a toast.

“Look at us now! You can’t get rid of us!” Kardashian says, laughing as she clinks cups with her guests.
