Six degrees of Kevin Bacon just got a whole lot easier.

The actor has signed on to star in a new TV series for Showtime, reports Variety.

He’ll portray John Wilkes Booth – the man who assassinated President Abraham Lincoln – in a new period drama, titled the The Booths.

The show will revolve around Booth’s dysfunctional relationship with his thespian siblings in the years prior to Lincoln’s murder. (His brother, distinguished actor Edwin Booth, was portrayed by Richard Burton in the 1955 biopic Prince of Players.)

Booth eventually became a rabid defender of the South, killing Lincoln at Ford’s Theatre on April 14, 1865. while he was watching the play Our American Cousin.

Bacon’s wife, Kyra Sedgwick, is already a fixture on the small screen, thanks to her starring role in TBS’s The Closer.
