Could ABC funnyman Alfonso Ribeiro be the next co-host of Live!? He hopes so!

After the news broke that Kelly Ripa‘s co-host Michael Strahan will be exiting Live! in a few months to take on a larger role at Good Morning America, names started being thrown around as to who might replace him.

On Tuesday, Ribeiro stopped by The Wendy Williams Show and opened up about being in the running as the possible co-host of Live!

When Wendy Williams asked the host of America’s Funniest Videos if he would take the job if they offered it, he quickly replied, “Yes!”

“My wife and I talked about it this week,” admitted the 44-year-old, who’s also guest-hosted Dancing with the Stars in the past. “I’m like, ‘Babe, you know, it’s weird because people are bringing up my name for the job, what do you think?’ She was like, ‘I’m not sure if I could live in New York, but we could make it work. I will come back to New York and be a New Yorker again for that show!’ ”

Noted Williams, “So in my mind it’s between you and Jerry O’Connell. May the best person win!”

PEOPLE previously reported that Ripa had her heart set on having Anderson Cooper or Andy Cohen take over the job.

“When Regis [Philbin] left, the person Kelly wanted more than anyone else was Anderson Cooper, but he was busy launching his own talk show,” a source tells PEOPLE. “Now that he’d be free, she would love it to be him.”

Live! With Kelly and Michael airs weekdays (check local listings).
