Kelly Ripa's 20th-Anniversary Vacation off to a Bittersweet Start After Michael Strahan Bombshell, Says Source
A long-planned celebratory vacation has become an escape from New York – and all its drama – for Kelly Ripa.
The 45-year-old jetted off to the Turks and Caicos islands to celebrate her 20th anniversary right after learning that her co-host Michael Strahan was leaving their show Live! for a full-time spot on Good Morning America.
But, according to a source, Ripa has felt the turbulence in the days leading up to her trip.
“Here she is trying to celebrate her 20th wedding anniversary, a trip she’s had on the books for months, and everything explodes, right before she was due to go,” the source tells PEOPLE.
The source adds, “She’s really hurt, in part because now this is hanging over her as she goes to celebrate this milestone.”
As Ripa was heading to her flight on Thursday, Strahan addressed his Live! departure on GMA.
“I’m very thankful for [Kelly], to her, because I’ve learned so much from her,” Strahan said. “And Michael Gelman showed me the ropes. I was so new to all of this and if it weren’t for her and it weren’t for Michael Gelman and the staff there that really boosted me up and made me look a lot better than I really am, I never would have had a chance to be here and I’m grateful that I’m here. We’re on the same team, same family, same network.”
Live! With Kelly and Michael airs weekdays (check local listings).
