Kelly Ripa is in no rush to permanently fill Michael Strahan‘s co-host seat.

“Kelly has always felt strongly that the show will need a permanent co-host and she is committed to finding one,” a source tells PEOPLE. “But that process cannot be rushed, and so she is happy to take her time to make sure that the chemistry is right.”

The source adds that Ripa is leaning towards a November announcement.

On Tuesday, Ripa’s first show back from Live with Kelly‘s summer break, the host announced that she and producers are giving one lucky fan a chance to take a seat beside her for one day only. Anyone can enter the contest and Ripa, 45, will pick a random guest co-host from a pool of applicants. Fans have until Sept. 20 to apply on the show’s website and Facebook.

Since Strahan, 44, left the morning program in May, a number of stars have sat alongside Ripa. She has co-hosted alongside her close friends Anderson Cooper and Andy Cohen while also giving considerable air time Fred Savage.

A similarly long process occurred following Regis Philbin‘s departure from the show on Nov.18, 2011. After taking nearly a year to replace the longtime co-host, Strahan was announced as Ripa’s new partner on Sept. 4, 2012.

Live with Kelly airs weekdays (check local listings).
