"This has been a year of a lot of change for my family, and we're all going through our own thing, kind of at the same time," said matriarch Kris Jenner

The latest season of Keeping Up with the Kardashians picked up in the middle of basically every kind of drama for the family.

As matriarch Kris Jenner explains, “This has been a year of a lot of change for my family, and we’re all going through our own thing, kind of at the same time.”

She said this in an interview after her daughters all took her out for dinner – the same night as Caitlyn Jenner‘s triumphant ESPYs award speech, the same night that Kourtney Kardashian‘s ex-boyfriend, Scott Disick, was watching their kids at home.

Also in the works: Kim Kardashian West‘s second pregnancy, Khloé Kardashian‘s new campaign of sexiness – engineered by Kim – Kendall Jenner‘s booming modeling career, Kris’ new boyfriend and much more. (Giraffe selfies! A cameo by a former California Superior Court judge!)

Still, despite a year of change, only halfway through filming, the Kardashians handled their many challenges and priorities, as ever, by presenting a unified family front.

Khloé, in the best shape of her life, was encouraged/forced to be on the cover of Complex, thanks to Kim.

The photo shoot was an anxious experience for the Kardashian sister, 31, who has spoken candidly about her history of body issues, but she said she was “definitely happy with how it turned out.”

Kim’s advice after a shoot like that? Go immediately to the nearest junk food source and pig out.

And when Kourtney, 36, seemed to still be in the middle of what Kris called her “I’m-not-going-to-get-a-wax-or-get-dressed phase,” Khloé and Kim, 35, arranged for her to basically have no choice but to come along on a trip to Malibu Wine, where she enjoyed such activities as: sips of wine and animal selfies and running away from insects enraged by Kris’ boyfriend Corey Gamble.

It was an hour of sisterly bonding. They worried most of all about Caitlyn’s ESPYs award (Should they go? Should they stay for the after-party?) and about how Kourtney and her kids were coping with Disick’s latest round of headline-grabbing partying – a stress that has left Kourtney in tears many times.

For the former, the sisters settled on a split: All five would attend the ESPYs, but would then take Kris, now 60, out for dinner after.

Kendall, in particular, worried that people would react badly to Caitlyn’s first public appearance. She told Kris at dinner after that she started crying even before Caitlyn walked on stage. She was nervous that Caitlyn was nervous.

Oddly, the season premiere teased the daughters’ anxiety at being caught between Caitlyn and Kris, though followers of the famous family have already seen that conflict played out and resolved over the first season of I Am Cait.

As for how Kourtney and the kids were handling Disick, 32, Kim wondered at one point in an interview if Disick might “weasel” his way back into a relationship with Kourtney, as, she said, he had done before.

But as Kourtney said in the premiere, “I’m so done, it’s not even funny.”

Still, she said that didn’t mean he wouldn’t be around for their kids: 5-year-old Mason, 3-year-old Penelope and Reign, now 11 months.

“He’s going to be in our lives. We have three kids together,” she told Kris, explaining how Disick would visit while the family was at the ESPYs. “So just, heads up.”

In one moment, Kourtney and Kris and Kim discussed Scott’s partying and how no one has really heard from him.

“This is what he wants to be doing, so there’s nothing I can do at this point,” Kourtney said, adding, “I just want to care for my kids.”

As Kim and Kris told Kourtney how proud they were of her, how much they supported her, Kourtney said there was one good thing to come from the end of the relationship: More closet space.

Since they were all gathered together at Kris’ home for the conversation, maybe she had just walked by a new piece of art in her mom’s home – a new motto, Kris said: “That was then. This is now.”

So yeah. “There’s actually a lot of bright sides,” Kourtney said of Scott, sounding like herself. “The closet is No. 1.”
