Kathryn Dennis' Life So Far: From Southern Charm to Rehab and Raising 2 Children
Dennis comes from a historically significant pedigree of prominent politicians. On her father’s side, she is the granddaughter of Senator Rembert Coney Dennis, who served 50 years in the South Carolina Senate. And on her mother’s side, she is the direct descendent of John C. Calhoun, the seventh vice president of the United States (under John Quincy Adams and Andrew Jackson).
After graduating from Berkeley High School in 2009, Dennis went off to the University of South Carolina, where she studied political science and women's studies. She also joined the Delta Delta Delta sorority.
FIRST RUN-IN WITH THE LAW
Dennis was arrested for underage drinking and disorderly conduct when she was 20 years old.
REALITY TV DEBUT
Dennis was 21 when she appeared on the first season of Southern Charm, which premiered in March 2014, as a supporting cast member.
DATING THOMAS RAVENEL
Though Shep Rose, Craig Conover and Whitney Sudler-Smith all tried to woo her, it was ultimately Thomas Ravenel, who is 30 years her senior, who began dating Dennis in season 1.
BECOMING A MOTHER
Despite their dramatic storylines in season 1, Dennis and Ravenel documented the March 2014 arrival of their daughter Kensington, now 4 years old, in the finale.
MOM OF TWO
In season 3, Dennis and Ravenel welcomed their second child, son St. Julien Rembert, now 2½ years old, in November 2015.
FULL-TIME CAST MEMBER
In season 2, Dennis signed on as a full-time member of Southern Charm, continuing to document the ups and downs of her increasingly volatile relationship with Ravenel as he sought political office.
CHECKING INTO REHAB
Dennis traveled to California for rehab in 2016 after she tested positive for marijuana and lost custody of her children. In the season 4 premiere, she returned to Charleston sober and with her heart set on proving her haters wrong.
Though they officially split in April 2016, Dennis and Ravenel's tumultuous relationship escalated into a years-long custody battle over their two kids. In July 2017, Thomas was awarded full custody due to the drug test.
Throughout season 5, Dennis defended herself against Ravenel's girlfriend Ashley Jacobs, who repeatedly accused her of being a bad mother and brought up her past substance abuse issues. And for the first time, the entire cast consistently had her back.
During the fifth season finale, it was revealed that Dennis was granted 50/50 custody of Kensington and Saint and continues to complete random drug tests. (Ravenel, meanwhile, is being investigated by police for sexual assault, which he has denied through his attorney.)
During the season 5 reunion, Dennis revealed to Andy Cohen that she had a breast augmentation. "They grew a little bit unnaturally,” she told him with a smile.
