As 2015 draws to a close, Hoda Kotb and Kathie Lee Gifford are looking back on the life and legacy of the late Frank Gifford.

Frank, who was married to Kathie Lee for 29 years, died of natural causes in August at age 84.

During Today Wednesday, the co-hosts watched a video showing highlights from the NFL hall of famer’s appearances on the show, as well as clips of Kathie Lee speaking about her longtime love.

Kotb introduced the clip calling Frank “an important member of our family,” while Kathie Lee sat silently.

Some of the videos shown included Frank bringing flowers to his wife during the broadcast, Kotb announcing his death and Kathie Lee remembering their journey together.

“He was so grateful, he knew what hard work was,” she said in the montage. “He never had an entitled moment in his entire life.”

In November, the Gifford family disclosed that the broadcaster suffered from a concussion-related brain disease.

“We decided to disclose our loved one’s condition to honor Frank’s legacy of promoting player safety dating back to his involvement in the formation of the NFL Players Association in the 1950s,” the Gifford family said in a statement. “His entire adult life Frank was a champion for others, but especially for those without the means or platform to have their voices heard. He was a man who loved the National Football League until the day he passed, and one who recognized that it was – and will continue to be – the players who elevated this sport to its singular stature in American society.”

Kathie Lee, who shared two children with the one-time Giants player, told PEOPLE in August that Gifford “lived fully and loved deeply, and he leaves an amazing legacy of lives touched and changed.”
