The only constant for Rob Kardashian‘s family these days is change.

News of his engagement to Blac Chyna was quickly followed last week by the revelation that they’re expecting their first child together.

“The family in general still feels Rob’s relationship with Chyna is very rushed,” a Keeping Up with the Kardashians source tells PEOPLE. “They were hoping that Chyna would be more like a rebound. Someone who was able to help Rob, but that he then would move on. They never expected an engagement and a baby.”

Though the family has taken time to warm up to the model and entrepreneur, 27, “Rob has made it clear though that this is what he wants,” the insider adds. “He seems very happy. The family knows that they need to be on his side, or he will shut them out. They are really playing by Rob’s rules now.”

As for Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner, 60, she “has had a difficult time with the whole situation,” says the source. “It’s definitely been frustrating for her. But the baby will be welcomed. Just like with Kris’ other grandkids, Rob’s baby will be loved and spoiled.”

One silver lining for the momager? “From a business aspect, Rob’s new life is great for the show,” says the source. “They have had some problems coming up with new storylines. Rob’s baby is great.”

As PEOPLE previously reported, the baby news was leaked by Kardashian’s family. Chyna wanted to announced the news on her own time, Chyna’s rep told PEOPLE, “but allegedly the other half of her family leaked her story so she had to announce it.”

Chyna’s rep added that “it’s the business. There’s a TV show to promote.”

Though what part Chyna will play in that show remains to be seen, says the KUWTK source: “Chyna still has no plans to be on the show. She and Rob plan on signing their own deals.”
