The Big Bang Theory star stopped by CBS This Morning Tuesday and opened up about her fresh outlook on life after officially finalizing her divorce from ex-husband Ryan Sweeting on Friday.

“You know what, I’m not ashamed of anything that happened,” Cuoco, 30, said of her split from the tennis player, 28, in September after 21 months of marriage.

“I fall in love really hard, I do,” she admitted. “I go deep. That person is it for me – I love hard, and when it’s over, it’s over, and some people make mistakes.”

That being said, she “wouldn’t call it a mistake, it just is what happened in my life.”

Of the divorce, Cuoco said “everything ended the way it was supposed to” and made it clear the experience hasn’t hardened her perspective on love.

“Even when I was going through it, I was like, ‘Oh, I’m never going to love again’ – I can’t even pretend to say that, ’cause it’s not me,” she said. “It’s not my heart. I know that’s not me, and I know I will again. And I’ve actually never been happier.”

“I’m excited to see what the future holds – but it happened, and now I have to say I’m happier than I’ve ever been,” she added.

As for the source of all that giddy happiness? Her new boyfriend, professional equestrian Karl Cook!

“There are just special people in my life now, and the show is doing great and I’ve got my horses,” she said.

Of her new beau, son of billionaire Scott Cook, Cuoco said with a smile: “He’s special.”

“I think meeting people that are involved [in the same things as you] – I think that the horse connection is special. He’s special,” she said, noting the fact that they both share a love of horses.

A source recently told PEOPLE Cuoco is “really happy” about the budding romance, and the star also hasn’t been shy about showing off her new beau with sweet Instagram posts.

And of course, the Big Bang Theory star is looking forward to the season finale of the hit CBS series this Sunday – but don’t get any ideas about a pregnant Penny now that she and Leonard are married.

While discussing whether her character might have kids during an appearance on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert Monday night, Cuoco admitted that she’s not jumping at the possibility.

“I hope not, I don’t like working with kids,” she told host Stephen Colbert. “I like kids. I don’t want to work with them. I don’t want to be around them.”

“Babies are really tough to work with,” she continued. “They’re the biggest divas you could possibly have around. They’re carried in. They only work like, six minutes. Guess what – I’d like to only work six minutes! … I would like to cry once in a while, but as an adult we just can’t do that!”

“I just feel like the babies can do whatever the hell they want, and I don’t think that that’s fair,” she added. “So, I don’t want to work with them.”

What about puppies, though?

Hate puppies!” she said, cracking up. “Puppies are the worst. Not cute at all.”

The Big Bang Theory season finale airs Thursday (8 p.m. ET) on CBS.
