Justin Bieber thinks the world should be a little nicer to Kylie Jenner.

In an interview with Billboard, Bieber opened up about childhood stardom, calling it “the toughest thing in the world.”

“I want people to be more kind to young celebrities,,” he says, before going on to talk about the 18-year-old Keeping up with the Kardashians star. “Like Kylie. Look at her world: She has been living on TV since she was a kid. Every time she’s looking around she sees a camera, and that’s affecting how she’s thinking and how she’s perceiving people and why she has to do certain things … Situations that happen taint your mind, especially in this industry. Especially for girls.”

also opened up about his ex ex-girlfriend Selena Gomez. The on-again, off-again couple last split in 2014.

“I’m proud of the woman she is today,” he says. “When you love someone that much, even if something comes between you, it’s a love that never really dies.”

Bieber, 21, recently partied with the Kardashian-Jenner family and Kylie’s sister Kendall Jenner‘s 20th birthday bash. He’s previously enjoyed pool time with the family this year, and even mingled with Kim Kardashian West and Kanye West on Valentine’s Day.

Bieber’s fourth album, Purpose, hits stores Nov. 14.
