They found themselves at odds while discussing President Donald Trump's tweet about Senator Amy Klobuchar
The two women, who have a habit of butting heads on the show, found themselves at odds while discussing President Donald Trump‘s tweet about Senator Amy Klobuchar.
The senator was mocked by Trump after she announced her bid for presidency over the weekend. In a tweet, the president said it was “bad timing” for her to talk “proudly of fighting global warming while standing in a virtual blizzard of snow, ice and freezing temperatures.”
As Behar, 76, introduced the topic, McCain, 34, added, “This is real.”
“Can I get through this, please?” Behar replied.
But it wasn’t until McCain tried to give her opinion on the subject that things really took a turn. After Behar discussed the story with her fellow co-hosts Abby Huntsman and Sunny Hostin, McCain interjected.
“Can I say something now?” she asked. “Is that okay, Joy? Do I have permission to speak now on Amy Klobuchar? We’re all good?”
McCain started to make her point but stopped in the middle after looking up at Behar. “Nope, by all means, keep going, Joy,” she said.
“No, if you’re going to have a hissy fit, we can’t continue,” she said as the studio audience laughed. McCain crossed her arms and shook her head. She did not speak for the rest of the segment.
A rep for The View did not immediately return PEOPLE’s request for comment.
The co-workers last had an especially tense exchange during a George H.W. Bush tribute on the show in December. The two sparred when their discussion about the late president, who died Dec. 1 at the age of 94, turned political.
After praising Bush’s environmental efforts while in office, Behar tore into President Donald Trump. Things quickly escalated when McCain asked that the conversation be redirected back to honoring Bush.
“Can we focus on the president, please?” she asked. “I don’t want to talk about Trump when we’re in the moment of honoring a great president who passed. I’m not interested in your one-issue voter when our president just passed.”
“I don’t care what you’re interested in. I’m talking! Damn it,” Behar fired back.
“Well, I don’t care what you’re interested in either, Joy!” McCain said as Whoopi Goldberg instructed the cameras to turn to commercial break.
However, a source later told PEOPLE the two women were “totally fine” following the exchange.
“They had a disagreement on-air, which is totally expected in that job,” the source said. “But they are both professionals. They seemed completely fine afterward.”
In fact, just ahead of the new year, McCain posted of photo of herself hugging Behar while wearing festive holiday attire.
“We’ll fight again in 2019! Merry Christmas ya filthy animal!” she wrote.
