Jonathan Taylor Thomas and Tim Allen Reunite on Last Man Standing
Once a family, always a family.
Jonathan Taylor Thomas makes a guest appearance on Tim Allen’s ABC sitcom Last Man Standing this Friday. But several of the jokes are about a show that went off the air 14 years ago – Home Improvement, on which Allen and Thomas played father and son.
“Man, you look familiar,” Allen says in Friday’s episode (to much laughter from the audience) upon meeting Thomas’s character, a restaurant owner who has designs on Allen’s daughter Kristin.
“Well, you know, I used to work with Kristin,” Thomas replies.
“That’s not it,” Allen deadpans.
After a back-and-forth in which Thomas butters Allen up – explaining how he’s a small-business owner and showing off his souped-up car – Thomas takes off, leaving Allen impressed.
“That kid was raised right,” he says.
Thomas, now 31, was 10 years old when Home Improvement premiered in 1991. He grew up in front of the cameras and was 16 when he left the show after its penultimate season.
“I think at this point, I’d eventually like to work behind the camera,” he said. “That’s not to say I would never act again. I’m not quite sure, to be honest. I still have a passion for TV and film [and] could see myself working in it.”
This guest role on Last Man Standing is Thomas’s first acting work since 2005.
