John Krasinski Will Play Jack Ryan in Amazon Series
John Krasinski will take Tom Clancy's action hero to the small screen
The 36-year-old actor has signed on to play author Tom Clancy‘s iconic CIA character Jack Ryan in a new 10-episode series for Amazon.
While no premiere date has been set, Jack Ryan comes from executive producer Michael Bay and the Lost duo of co-showrunner Cartlon Cuse and writer Graham Roland – who will also executive produce. Paramount TV and Skydance are the studios behind the series.
Krasinski first teased the news back in May, captioning a Twitter shot of a stack of Clancy’s books “summer reading.”
Of course, Krasinski isn’t the first actor to step into Jack Ryan’s CIA shoes. Though this is the first time Ryan will be on the small screen, he has appeared on the big screen in five Hollywood films.
Before playing the Caped Crusader in Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice, Ben Affleck took a stab at Ryan in 2004’s The Sum of All Fears. Ten years later, Chris Pine tried the character on for size in Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit.
While Clancy’s novels follows Ryan’s journey from investment broker to CIA analyst to (spoiler alert) President of the United States, Amazon’s series will fall somewhere in the middle of his career.
Krasinski’s Ryan will be in the CIA, on a dangerous field assignment after discovering a terrorist plot that could spark global destruction. Take that, Jim Halpert!
Since The Office, Krasinski has focused his career on the big screen, with roles in 13 Hours, Aloha and the Sundance indie The Hollars, which he also directed.
He made a cameo in the Netflix revival of Arrested Development and has voiced characters in the animated shows BoJack Horseman and Robot Chicken.
