She's Calling the Shots Now! Shiri Appleby's Game-Changing Advice for UnREAL Costar Joanna Braddy
Braddy talks directing and the important advice Shiri Appleby gave her about Hollywood
On Thursday, PEOPLE caught up with Braddy at Good Housekeeping‘s 2016 Awesome Women Awards celebration and asked the 28-year-old actress who inspires her and why.
“Shiri Appleby … in so many ways, personal and career,” Braddy gushed about her UnREAL costar. “One of the first scenes I had with Shiri where it was just us two, she started talking about the longevity of a women’s career in the acting industry. She said ‘You can’t just rely on your face, you need to start directing,’ and I was like, ‘What? That’s silly.’ ”
“But the more I watched and the more I talked to her,” she continued, “I realized how smart that was. So, that’s become my new obsession.”

Braddy continued to discuss how excited she was for her new endeavor and how supportive Appleby, 37, has been.
“Josh Safran on Quantico is helping me meet directors is gonna let me shadow,” she told PEOPLE. “Yeah, he’s super supportive of it. There aren’t too many female directors … but Shiri, she directed an episode this year and now that she’s on hiatus, she’s gonna work with the network. She’s very inspiring.”
“[Appleby] helped us find our place here,” Braddy added. “She did our budget and went through our bank account and was like, ‘This is what you have. This is how you can spend, you need to live here.’ She’s such a strong inspirational woman.”
