Days after cracking wry jokes on Fashion Police in her mother’s honor, Melissa Rivers is remembering Joan Rivers on the anniversary of her tragic death.

“Today marks one year since my mother passed,” Melissa, 47, said in a statement released through Joan’s official Twitter account. “This was a year of firsts: first holidays, first birthdays, first every things without mom, without grandma. While it’s been difficult, I’ve been amazed by the outpouring of love and overwhelming kindness we’ve received from family, friends and people whose lives were touched by the woman they knew as Joan – a woman we all miss very much.”

The bawdy, boundary-breaking comedian died Sept. 4, 2014, a week after she stopped breathing during a routine surgical procedure on her vocal chords.

On Thursday night, Melissa led a Fashion Police tribute, Remembering Joan, highlighting the comic’s funniest moments on E!’s style show. And on Monday, she stepped into her mother’s shoes as moderator on the show, which had been plagued by controversy and panelist switcheroos since Joan’s death.
