Jesse Tyler Ferguson kept it light while revealing a health scare to his fans on Tuesday.

The Modern Family star shared a photo on social media of himself with a giant bandage on his cheek, thanking his doctor for “taking the cancer out of my face.”

Ferguson, 40, joked about the challenge the procedure presents to his glam squad on the popular TV show, writing, “Good luck hiding the stitches tomorrow @modernfamily_makeuphair!”

Though the actor didn’t specify, it’s likely the disease in question was skin cancer, as Ferguson added the hashtag “#spf75,” alluding to sunscreen protection levels.

“Thank you to Dr. Bennett & his entire team,” he wrote.

He added, “#youwannaapieceofme #phantommask.”

The actor hadn’t previously spoken out about the cancer, and seemed to be healthy as recently as last month, when he flew to Palm Beach, Florida, for costar Sofia Vergara‘s wedding.
