Jessa (Duggar) Seewald is pregnant again – but if you’d told her after she gave birth last year that she’d be expecting this soon, she would never have believed you!

During an exclusive interview with PEOPLE last November after welcoming her first child, Spurgeon, with husband Ben, the Counting On star revealed that after nearly 48 hours in labor, she wanted to adopt in the future instead.

“I was teasing him when I was in labor – I don’t really think I was teasing, actually, I told him while I was in labor: ‘Babe, we are not having ANY more kids after this,” Jessa told PEOPLE at the time. “We are ADOPTING all the rest.”

“Looking back, it was well worth it and we will have more kids, but in the moment, I really believed that we are only adopting from here on out,” she added.

Jessa, 23, admitted the pregnancy – and specifically her dramatic delivery – wasn’t easy: “There were a few times I said: ‘I can’t do this anymore.’ ”

Now Jessa and Ben, 21, are happy parents to son Spurgeon, 9 months – and announced exclusively to PEOPLE Tuesday that they are “overjoyed” to be expecting their second child in February.

“My prayer for our children is that their faith would cause them to remain humble before God and they would realize they are not any better than other people, no matter what their circumstances are,” Ben told PEOPLE last year. “That they would be able to be with and have fellowship with anyone, no matter how high or low their condition in life, that they would be able to be a friend to the poor, to the poorest of the poor and the lowest of the low.”

“I want them to have that perspective of being poor in spirit, coming to God with an empty hand,” he added. “That perspective keeps you humble before God and before others and to not think of yourself more highly than you are like the Bible says. That’s my prayer.”
