The “On The Floor” singer tweeted a video teasing the upcoming musical, in which she’ll star, halfway through the East Coast performance of Hairspray Live! on Wednesday evening.
The production will be titled Bye Bye Birdie Live! with Lopez playing Rose “Rosie” Alvarez, the secretary and girlfriend of Albert Peterson, a songwriter and music agent.
The show is the latest in the network’s series of live televised musicals, which include The Wiz, Peter Pan and The Sound of Music.
Bye Bye Birdie and Lopez’s involvement were announced in October by NBC Chairman Robert Greenblatt in a conversation moderated by PEOPLE and Entertainment Weekly Editorial Director Jess Cagle at the Paley Center for Media in Los Angeles.
“To have a superstar like Jennifer Lopez starring in this classic show, which every high school in America has done, will ensure that our holiday musicals continue to be must-see events for the whole family,” Greenblatt said in a statement released to PEOPLE at the time.

Greenblatt also revealed it was Lopez who suggested she step into the role originated by Chita Rivera, who starred opposite Dick Van Dyke in the original 1960 Broadway production of Bye Bye Birdie.
“Broadway musicals and films fueled my childhood and Bye Bye Birdie was one of my favorites,” Lopez said. “I’m proud to be a part of the NBC family with Shades of Blue and I thought it would be a blast to take on one of their big live musicals.”
Lopez will executive produce the production with Elaine Goldsmith-Thomas, Benny Medina, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Harvey Fierstein will adapt Bye Bye Birdie for the telecast; he also adapted and stars in Hairspray Live!
