Jazz Jennings' Mom Confronts 'Every Mother's Worst Fear' as Transgender Teen Prepares for Risky Surgery
I Am Jazz airs Wednesdays at 10 p.m. ET on TLC
Jazz Jennings‘s family is coming together as their daughter faces a potentially risky surgery.
In an exclusive sneak peek at Wednesday’s episode of her TLC docu-series I Am Jazz, the transgender teen and her parents go to California for t-blocker replacement surgery in order to prevent her from going through male puberty.
But when Jazz’s doctor lays out the potential risks and says she would need to be put under general anesthesia, her family gets a little worried.
“I just want to get the blocker in as soon as possible. I just have anxiety. That’s easier for me. I’m just asleep,” says Jazz, 15.
Her mother Jeanette is more worried, because of the risks involved.
“I’m definitely nervous about the surgery with general anesthesia. Every mother’s worst fear is, ‘What if they don’t wake up afterward?’ ” says Jeanette.
But the family is determined to do what’s best for their daughter.
“I want everything to go smoothly, but you can never be sure about anything,” says Jazz. “You can only hope.”
