ABC has said “I do” to its second reality show wedding, as The Bachelor stars Jason Mesnick and Molly Malaney will walk down the aisle on-air March 8, according to The Hollywood Reporter.
The couple got engaged in New Zealand in October.
Considering the astronomical ratings — more than 17.1 million viewers — from the televised 2002 nuptials of The Bachelorette‘s Trista Rehn and Ryan Sutter (the only married couple the franchise has produced), another on-air wedding is a no-brainer for network execs. The broadcast will include the bride’s dress fitting, event planning, bachelor and bachelorette parties and the ceremony. Other familiar faces from The Bachelor and The Bachelorette are reportedly on the guest list.
But viewers might tune in for another reason: to see if Mesnick’s infamous waffling will resurface on the big day. The show’s first single dad, he proposed to Melissa Rycroft in the finale of the 2009 season before changing his mind and breaking up with her to pursue Malaney — all on the air, of course. –Blane Bachelor
