Lamar Odom‘s close friend Jamie Sangouthai’s death has been ruled an accident, PEOPLE confirms.

“He had [a] flesh-eating disease from his intravenous drug use,” L.A. Coroner’s office assistant chief Ed Winter tells PEOPLE.

“Cause A is Necrotizing fasciitis. Cause B is chronic intravenous narcotism,” Winter explains. “How it occurred was self-injection and ruled an accident.”

Sangouthai, who was 37 when he passed, appeared on Khloé Kardashian and Odom’s Keeping Up with the Kardashians‘ spin-off, Khloé & Lamar.

“When does it stop? RIP Jamie Sangouthai,” Kardashian, 30, Tweeted on Sunday. She followed it up several hours later with heartbreak emojis and crying faces.

Kardashian’s friend Malika Haqq also shared a photo of herself posing with Sangouthai, Odom and Kardashian. “Thru good and bad times life shows us every spirit matters and leaves a print on the hearts of others after they have passed… RIP Jamie Sangouthai #GodHelpUsAll,” she captioned the picture.

Sangouthai’s friends and former classmates – Willie and Jonie Miranda – have set up a GoFundMe page to help his family with burial costs.
