James Corden Officially Announced to Replace Craig Ferguson on 'Late Late Show'

CBS will rely on another European to keep up the laughs in late night.

British actor-comedian James Corden, 36, will take over as the new host of The Late Late Show in 2015, replacing the Scotland-born Craig Ferguson, who announced in April that he’ll step down from the late-night show that he’s hosted for the past 10 years.

Ferguson’s final broadcast will be in December.

“I can’t describe how thrilled and honored I am to be taking over from the brilliant Craig Ferguson,” Corden said in a statement. “To be asked to host such a prestigious show on America’s No. 1 network is hugely exciting. I can’t wait to get started, and will do my very best to make a show America will enjoy.”

Corden, who picked up a 2012 leading actor Tony on Broadway for the sidesplitting West End transfer One Man, Two Guvnors, is a multi-hyphenated performer.

Currently starring opposite Keira Knightley and Mark Ruffalo onscreen in Begin Again, he will appear opposite Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp and Emily Blunt in a Disney adaptation of Stephen Sondheim’s stage musical Into the Woods, due in December. He plays the Baker (the one with the wife).

He also hosts the sports-themed comedy game show A League of Their Own on Sky 1 in the U.K., and stars in, produces and writes the BBC comedy thriller The Wrong Mans.

Previous screen credits include How to Lose Friends and Alienate People opposite Jeff Bridges and Gulliver’s Travels with Jack Black.

As for Ferguson, 52, he is already preparing for life away from late night, with this month’s debut of his hosting duties on a syndicated game show called Celebrity Name Game. He is also in talks to host a syndicated talk show that will air weekdays in the early evening.
