Sophie Turner was seen happily walking around barefoot, hugging and posing for photos with her many costars
The cast of Game of Thrones sure knows how to have a good time.
At the series’ final season premiere event in New York City on Wednesday, the actors demonstrated that though they star in a show that revolves around a lot of death and destruction, they will get down at an afterparty.
Here are the highlights we observed at the epic final event.
A Throne Fit for Many Kings/Queens
A huge part of the season 8 premiere festivities involved the Iron Throne, the coveted seat for the king/queen of all realms in Westeros. HBO installed a giant replica in the heart of Rockefeller Plaza at the front of the red carpet, as well as a smaller white version at the afterparty.
Sophie Turner Goes Shoeless
After Sophie Turner (aka Sansa Stark, aka The Lady of Winterfell) rocked the red carpet in a glam black cocktail dress and heels, she ditched her shoes at the premiere’s afterparty and was seen happily walking around barefoot, hugging and posing for photos with her many costars.
Samwell Tarly Meets a Hero
Actor John Bradley, aka Sam Tarly, looked to be the most surprised and starstruck when he met comedian Dave Chappelle, a huge GoT fan, who was mingling with the cast at the bash. Chappelle was seen chatting with a variety of the show’s major players and looked happy to be meeting everyone, like Bradley’s real-life pal and costar Kit Harington.
The Mountain Is Never Lost in a Crowd
Actor Hafþór Júlíus Björnsson, aka The Mountain/Gregor Clegane, was one of the most sought-after and easily recognizable cast members at the event. Björnsson, who is 6-ft. 9-in, was regularly stopped for photos by fans delighted to see the World’s Strongest Man in person. Björnsson attended the event with his wife Kelsey Henson (she’s 5-ft. 2-in).
The Dead Have Risen!
Despite the fact that their characters are no longer on the show, a slew of actors whose characters have been killed off attended the final premiere and party. The list included: Jason Momoa (Khal Drogo), Jack Gleeson (Joffrey), Sean Bean (Ned Stark), Charles Dance (Tywin Lannister), Kristian Nairn (Hodor), Sibel Kekilli (Shae), Mark Addy (Robert Baratheon), Pedro Pascal (Oberyn “the Red Viper” Martell), Natalie Dormer (Margaery Tyrell), Rose Leslie (Ygritte), Aidan Gillen (Petyr “Littlefinger” Baelish) and Esmé Bianco (Ros).
Gleeson, who played evil King Joffrey, was constantly approached by his former costars for catch-up chats and photos. Turner’s fiancé Joe Jonas posted a particularly cheeky one with Turner draped over Gleeson, her former TV fiancé, and Jonas looking confused.
All the Celebs Love GoT
In addition to Chappelle, tons of other celebrities were on hand showing their support and love for the fantasy series. TV host John Oliver was spotted mingling with cast members, along with Debbie Harry, who took a photo with Harington and Rose Leslie (with a bonus photobomb from Conleth Hill, aka Lord Varys on the show), Thomas Middleditch (Silicon Valley), Keegan Michael Key and many more.
Game of Thrones premieres April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
