How Joe Giudice Reacted to Teresa's Bodybuilding Competition
"I was kind of shocked," Teresa Giudice said of Joe Giudice's reaction to her bodybuilding competition on Wednesday's Real Housewives of New Jersey
On Wednesday’s Real Housewives of New Jersey, Teresa, 46, revealed that days before the competition, she told Joe — who is still serving out his 41-month prison sentence for mail, wire and bankruptcy fraud — about it and got his full support.
Previously, Teresa said she was worried that Joe would be against it. “Joe always said to me, ‘You’re not doing that,’ ” she told her trainer in a previous episode. She added, “It’s another year ’til he comes home so I was just like, ‘I’m just doing it, I don’t care what he says.’ ”
“I don’t care what anybody thinks; my husband or anyone,” Teresa said on RHONJ‘s season 9 premiere. “Sorry Joe!”
But when Joe finally learned, Teresa didn’t have to apologize about anything. “I’ve been on the fence whether or not I should tell Joe that I’m doing this bikini competition. I never know how he’s going to react to things, but then a week ago, I did tell him about it. And he just said, ‘I hope you win!’ ” Teresa explained on Wednesday’s episode.
“I was kind of shocked,” she added. “I was like, ‘Oh, he is changing in there.’ ”
Teresa spent seven months training for her competition — working out daily, eating a strict diet and not drinking alcohol.
“I’ve worked out and practiced posing for over a thousand hours,” she said. “I can’t believe it boils down to two minutes on stage. … That’s crazy to me.”
Her two minutes on stage came in June at the NPC South Jersey Bodybuilding Championships in Medford, New Jersey. There, a very tan Teresa flaunted her ripped abs, toned arms and muscular legs in a tiny two-piece bikini.
She did well too, winning third place in the 40-plus bikini division.
The mom of four told PEOPLE Now in November that bodybuilding was a longtime goal of hers.
“I’ve always wanted to do competition fitness, and I just never had the time to do it, or just always pushed it off,” she said.
The workouts and meal prepping wasn’t easy, she added, but she was determined. “I just put my mind to it,” she said. “And I also wanted to show my daughters, you know, if you put your mind to something you could achieve it.”
Overall, Teresa is glad she did it.
“This whole journey has completely changed me,” she said on Wednesday’s episode. “For the first time in my life, I got to do something just for me. I’ve never been this independent, and I love it.”
The Real Housewives of New Jersey airs Wednesdays (9 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
