Carrie Mathison is back in action on Homeland Sunday.

Star Claire Danes says even though her character wants to live the quiet life after the explosive events of season 4, that isn’t in the cards.

“She’s out of the game. She’s in the private sector, and she’s working for a benevolent billionaire,” Danes tells PEOPLE of where Homeland picks up Sunday.

Now that Carrie has left the CIA, she wants to atone for her sins of the past.

“In the beginning of the season, she is doing very well, she has a gorgeous, smart German lawyer boyfriend and she’s really connected to her child and she’s really happy for about five minutes,” says Danes. “Then she’s kidnapped again.”

Carrie is wrongly suspected in a plot against the CIA, putting her at odds with her old pals, and she’s quickly sucked back into the world of political intrigue she was trying to escape.

Danes acknowledges that the numerous times Carrie has been kidnapped has become a running joke on set.

“We were joking that Carrie should have a drawer full of kidnap hoods next to her delicates, she’s got so many. Some mesh, some jersey,” Danes says.

Homeland season 5 premieres Sunday at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.
