Who says Hillary Clinton‘s not hip? Clad in a royal blue pantsuit, the Democratic front-runner danced the nae nae during an appearance on The Ellen DeGeneres Show Thursday – or at least, she tried.

Clinton, 67, along with Ellen DeGeneres and DJ Stephen "tWitch" Boss, spiced up a commercial break by performing the popular dance move to Silento’s “Watch Me (Whip/Nae Nae).”

Perhaps Clinton would have been safer busting some mom moves with Jimmy Fallon, a la First Lady Michelle Obama – although to be fair, the former secretary of state was a good sport about the dance party, whipping and nae nae-ing as best any first-timer could – and with a big smile.

Clinton seemed much more comfortable, however, while talking about her granddaughter, Charlotte, who will celebrate her first birthday on Sept. 26.

Pondering what little Charlotte will call her once she learns more words, Clinton quipped, “Well, you know, I’m fine with ‘Grandma,’ I’m fine with ‘Madam President’ – I mean, whatever.”

Charlotte’s mom, Chelsea Clinton, previously told PEOPLE that her daughter has said exactly three words so far – “up,” “hi” and “bye” – so “Madam President” might be a bit of a wait.
