Heather Dubrow: 'I Had Post Traumatic Stress Disorder for a Few Weeks After the Housewives Dune Buggy Accident'
The Bravo personality reveals to PEOPLE that she cried watching the episode
“I was very nervous about watching this episode. It was very difficult to watch. I cried watching it. I cried watching my son in the other dune buggy saying to Kelly’s daughter, ‘Your mom and my mom are okay. They’re good. They’re okay,’ ” Dubrow says of her son. “It was very difficult to watch.”
Weeks following the frightening ATV accident, the 47-year-old said that she suffered from both nightmares and PTSD.
“I had post traumatic stress disorder for a few weeks after that. I was waking up in the middle of the night feeling my face fall in the sand. Because the way we hit, my head hit in the sand first. It was the scariest thing that ever happened to me,” Dubrow admits.
Dubrow’s husband Terry also tells PEOPLE that watching the episode was difficult for him to do, and he’s thankful that the accident wasn’t fatal.
“It was very hard. What made it even harder is we actually had some friends recently that the same thing happened to and it didn’t turn out the good way,” the 57-year-old Botched doctor says. “It really highlighted where it could have gone. It really underscores the fact, you know what, work less, get home, love your family and be with your family.”
Though Dubrow and Dodd feuded early on in the season, the mother of four said that the accident helped repair their relationship.
“As far as the show goes, what’s interesting is a near-death experience really bonds people,” Dubrow says. “Kelly definitely got a restart with me after that accident.”
The Real Housewives of Orange County airs Mondays at 9 p.m. ET on Bravo.
