Mark Ballas, Andy Cohen and Jennifer Lopez were just a few of the many celebrities that marked their calendars to tune in and watch NBC’s Hairspray Live on Wednesday evening.
While enjoying the performance, which aired live from Los Angeles, Frankie James Grande and many more took to social media to cheer on the A-list cast, featuring Garrett Clayton (Link Larkin), Derek Hough (Corny Collins), Martin Short (Wilbur Turnblad), (Penny Pingleton), Harvey Fierstein (the original Edna Turnblad on Broadway), Kristin Chenoweth (Velma Von Tussle), Andrea Martin (Prudy Pingleston), Sean Hayes (Mr. Pinky), and Billy Eichner (Rob Barker).
“The subject of Hairspray is very current to today,” Jennifer Hudson, who plays Motormouth Maybelle, said in a featurette about the production. “To me, the power in Hairspray is no matter your size, your color, where you’re from, what type of lifestyle you live, it celebrates everyone.”
