Kissing Depp isn't all it's cracked up to be, ladies (and gentlemen)

It might be unimaginable to think that kissing Johnny Depp could more trouble than it’s worth, but that appears to have been the case for his Mortdecai costar, Gwyneth Paltrow.

Paltrow, 42, stopped by The Rachael Ray Show to discuss working with Depp and the mustache that made her laugh so much she was afraid she was going to get fired from the film.

In the movie, Depp, 51, who plays the titular character, wears a particularly insane mustache that makes his wife, played by Paltrow, gag.

Because of his automatic gag reflex, her gagging makes Depp retch in turn, and even in the trailer we can see a horrifying circle of kiss-gagging that almost puts one off the act altogether.

Shooting the scene, too, was no easy feat. “I ruined probably 15 takes – which was funny at first,” Paltrow told Ray, “Until you look around and the crew’s like, ‘Oh my God.’ ”

“I honestly was digging my nails into my skin to not laugh by the end of the thing because I was like, ‘I’m going to get fired!’ ”

She did, however, recognize the good fortune of having to kiss Depp as her actual, real-life job – she just wishes her luck had been more like his other famous costar – Penelope Cruz.

“How come Penelope Cruz gets to do [Blow], where they’re all sexy and making out and I’m making out with this, like, wig on his face?”

Added Paltrow: “It was still pretty good, though.”
