Entertainment TV Meredith & Derek! Cristina & Burke! Remembering Every Single 'Grey's Anatomy' Wedding As Jo and Alex prepare to walk down the aisle tonight on the Grey's Anatomy season 14 finale, we're taking a look back at the other Grey Sloan Memorial staffers who have tied the knot By Diana Pearl Published on May 17, 2018 01:00 PM Share Tweet Pin Email 01 of 14 GEORGE & CALLIE We never actually saw the first Grey's wedding, which occured off-camera in Vegas between Callie Torres and George O'Malley in season 3. Their hasty nuptials weren't a strong foundation: The couple ended up divorcing by the show's fourth season. 02 of 14 CRISTINA & BURKE The wedding that wasn't. After nearly a season of preparation, Preston Burke called off his wedding to Cristina Yang because he felt that he was attempting to make her change in order to marry him. The heartwrenching episode ended with Burke moving out of the couple's shared apartment and Cristina sobbing in BFF (and "person") Meredith Grey's arms. 03 of 14 DEREK & MEREDITH Legendary Grey's Anatomy couple Derek Shepard and Meredith Grey were set to tie the knot in an elegant ceremony planned by Meredith's fellow intern Izzie Stevens. But when Izzie's brain cancer diagnosis takes a turn for the worse, Derek and Meredith decide to give Izzie and Alex their ceremony, and instead get married by writing their vows on a post-it. They eventually marry in a courthouse to make things "legal." 04 of 14 IZZIE & ALEX The wedding Izzie had originally planned for Meredith and Derek was as romantic as she had hoped — and she got to take center stage as the bride after Meredith and Derek let her and Alex have the ceremony so they could wed as Izzie's health started to deteriorate. She ended up recovering, but Izzie and Alex's marriage did not, and they eventually divorced after she moved to Tacoma, Washington. 05 of 14 CRISTINA & OWEN Owen Hunt and Cristina decided to get married after the shooting at Seattle Grace Mercy West. However, Cristina's second wedding was much more true to herself: A low-key ceremony where she didn't wear white. 06 of 14 BAILEY & BEN Miranda Bailey and Ben Warren ended up having a blissful, romantic wedding — but this is Grey's Anatomy, so it wasn't without a few bumps along the way. Bailey had to postpone the ceremony so she could operate on Chief of Surgery Richard Webber's wife, Adele. Ben was understanding about the delay, which made their nuptials all the sweeter. 07 of 14 APRIL & MATTHEW ABC April Kepner and Matthew Taylor's wedding had all the makings of a happily ever after: A doctor-filled wedding party, beautiful dress and a flash mob proposal. However, when Jackson Avery stood up in the ceremony and declared his love for April. She was in love with him too, so she and Matthew did not end up marrying. 08 of 14 APRIL & JACKSON Eric McCandless/ABC via Getty April and Jackson didn't wait too long to get married. After fleeing her wedding to Matthew, the couple decided they couldn't return to Seattle without being married themselves. They drove to Lake Tahoe, found April a new wedding dress and a minister, and tied the knot. 09 of 14 CALLIE & ARIZONA Callie's second wedding, to Arizona Robbins, was filled with tension: Her mother, Lucia, was not comfortable with the fact that Callie was marrying a woman, and though she attempted to attend the wedding, she ended up heading home beforehand. Callie nearly calls the wedding off, until Bailey comes and talks some sense into her. 10 of 14 OWEN & AMELIA Owen Hunt and Amelia Shepherd married quickly after she proposed to him in his new house. Though they received some pushback from her family for the haste in planning their nuptials, they eventually tied the knot with the support of friends like Meredith and Maggie Pierce. 11 of 14 TEDDY & HENRY Ron Tom/Walt Disney Television via Getty Henry Burton (Scott Foley) first came to Grey Sloane Memorial as a patient with Von-Hippel-Lindau syndrome without insurance and in need of surgery. Dr. Teddy Altman (Kim Raver) proposed to Henry so he could legally be on her insurance and get the surgery he needed. After tying the knot (for pure legal reasons), Henry and Teddy began to develop feelings for one another and their relationship eventually turned romantic. However, in season 8, it was revealed Henry had a tumor near his heart, causing bleeding in his lungs and trachea. He underwent surgery but ended up dying on the table. 12 of 14 JO & ALEX Eric McCandless/Walt Disney Television via Getty Jo and Alex tied the knot on a fairy boat in season 14. But, in season 15, the duo realized they never mailed in their signed marriage license...which had expired. The couple got legally married in a courthouse — on Halloween. 13 of 14 MAGGIE & WINSTON Richard Cartwright/ abc In the finale of season 17, Maggie Pierce and Winston Ndugu tied the knot in a beach front (post COVID-19) ceremony. 14 of 14 CATHERINE & RICHARD First, Richard proposed on the 4th of July, but Catherine denied him. Then, Catherine proposed the next Valentine's Day... but they ended up postponing their marriage due to a disagreement. After many ups and downs, they eventually got married in the chapel at Grey Sloan Memorial in season 11.
