With Gotham’s newest villain aware that he’s under investigation by none other than Jim Gordon, Jason Lennon – otherwise known as “The Ogre” – moves in on the person Jim loves most: Barbara.

In an exclusive sneak peek at this week’s episode of Gotham, we see that Jason (Milo Ventimiglia) has managed to charm his way into Barbara’s (Erin Richards) home.

Despite the fact that Jason is clearly up to no good, Barbara seems bored by her “society” life and intrigued by the danger.

Monday’s episode, “Under the Knife,” will spend some time at a charity ball thrown by Wayne Enterprises as Jim (Ben McKenzie) and Harvey (Donal Logue) close in on the man narrowing Gotham’s dating pool by abducting women and holding them for weeks before brutally killing them.

In a chat with PEOPLE, Ventimiglia revealed that it’s been “fun” to play the villain in his three-episode arc, as opposed to the good-guy empath he played the last time he acted in a comic-book universe, as Heroes‘ Peter Petrelli.

“Is it wrong to say that it’s a lot of fun to play a serial killer?” he asked. “But it is! Playing someone that is more selfish than selfless is fun.”

“At the same time,” added Ventimiglia, 37, “I never wanted to make a guy who is without humanity, without some kind of human quality. … He’s a guy who is looking for love. He is looking for a partner.”

Gotham airs Mondays (8 p.m. ET) on Fox.
