Gossip Girl: The Summer of Love, Lust and Luxury
The setting might have changed, but the drama hasn’t stopped as Gossip Girl returned with a vengeance Monday.
After getting stood up at the heliport by Chuck Bass (Ed Westwick) in the season 1 finale, Blair Waldrof (Leighton Meester) makes the trek out east to the posh Hamptons to catch up before senior year begins. Surprisingly, Chuck seemed to realize his mistake and comes to greet Blair with a bouquet of flowers. Always one step ahead, Blair descends from the Jitney bus with her summer fling James in tow. But the college boy she met in Europe turns out to be a British Lord named Marcus with several secrets of his own. Marcus might be a Lord but Chuck is determined to get Blair back.
Meanwhile, it seems like Nate Archibald (Chase Crawford) has channeled his forbidden love for Serena van der Woodsen (Blake Lively) into an even more forbidden love: a married woman! Instead of rekindling an old flame, Nate spends the summer jumping out windows in his boxers and getting frisky in cars with the much older Catherine.
Like always, Dan Humphrey (Penn Badgley) shows up at the wrong time and catches Serena helping Nate make Catherine jealous by kissing him at the white party. The once lonely boy is torn about whether he should forgive her or not but after hooking up on the beach later that night, it seems like Serena and Dan are as hot for each other as ever.
Little Jenny Humphrey (Taylor Momsen) has spent the summer toiling away for Eleanor Waldrof’s fashion house. The brazen intern offered her own design to one of her bosses who flatly refused to wear it to the white party. But with the help of Serena’s little brother, Jenny crashes the party, wears the dress and catches the eye of socialite Tinsley Mortimer. Looks like she’s going to make it in the fashion world after all! — Andrea DeSimone
