With just a week to go until Regionals – and Glee‘s season finale – the members of New Directions found themselves in a funk during Tuesday s episode after an ambush performance by Vocal Adrenaline, led once again by a defected Jesse, left the group depressed about their chances.

Realizing the glee club needed a pick-me-up, Mr. Schuester encouraged each of the students to channel their sad states into an emotional funk number, prompting a nine-months pregnant Quinn to finally step to the plate with James Brown‘s "It’s a Man’s Man’s Man’s World." Her soulful rendition earned her the respect of the team, but the club’s standout performance belonged to Finn, Puck and Mercedes, who recreated Marky Mark and the Funky Bunch‘s "Good Vibrations."

Though Mr. Schuester disqualified the track for being a rap song, the feel-good performance eventually inspired the group to band together and beat Vocal Adrenaline at their own game – funk. Ending the show with a performance of Parliament‘s "Give Up the Funk," New Directions showed their arch rivals they aren t going down without a fight. –Kiran Hefa
