Lisa Edelstein has quite the résumé – a successful actress on TV and in film, a celebrated playwright, a new wife and a former cheerleader for Donald Trump?

“I was in high school, and he had an off-season football league [the New Jersey Generals],” Edelstein tells PEOPLE exclusively in this week’s issue. “I was a dancer, and they needed more cheerleaders so I did about nine home games.”

Adds the actress, “We had Generals’ uniforms with miniskirts and go-go boots. They were made by [Trump’s then wife] Ivana. It was hilarious!”

Those days are long behind her now; Edelstein, 49, is starring in the second season of Bravo’s hit show Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce and celebrating the fact that higher-ups instructed her not to “touch her face” after she landed the role.

“They wanted to tell a story about a real person with a real face,” says Edelstein. “A lot of women panic when they realize they’re going to be on camera like this and they freeze their faces or fill their faces or whatever they do.”

Continues Edelstein, “I want to stay away from judging anybody but it definitely has become a radical move to age.”

Aging in Hollywood? Bring it on, says Edelstein.

“I think it’s far more interesting. And what can you do? You can’t go back! But fortunately I’m in a great place in my life. I feel successful, I’m healthy and I have a wonderful husband and beautiful stepchildren. What’s to complain about?”

Girlfriends’ Guide to Divorce airs Tuesdays (10 p.m. ET) on Bravo.
