And the Horse He Rode in on: Gary Busey Announces He's Joining 'Dancing With the Stars' Atop a Snazzy Stallion

Gary Busey will return to reality television as a competitor on season 21 of Dancing with the Stars

Gary Busey sure knows how to make an entrance.

The Academy Award-nominated actor announced that he’ll compete on season 21 of Dancing with the Stars in spectacular fashion Tuesday – on horseback!

Busey, 71, rode onto the set of Jimmy Kimmel Live straddling a white horse to reveal the big news.

Clad in a sparkly cowboy getup, with the animal wearing a red sequined blanket to match, Busey told host Jimmy Kimmel that he was “so proud to be here with you, announcing this incredible, mile-changing thing.”

When Kimmel asked Busey why he decided to compete on the celebrity dancing show, the actor said it was because he “didn’t have anything else to do.”

DWTS won’t be Busey’s first foray into reality TV. He once had his own show called I’m With Busey and has appeared on Celebrity Rehab, Celebrity Apprentice (twice!) and even won the U.K.’s Celebrity Big Brother.

The Point Break star also used his Tuesday appearance to drum up some early fan support.

“After I dance on Dancing with the Stars, please pick up your telephones and vote for me,” he told Kimmel’s audience.

Busey will join stars like Andy Grammer, Bindi Irwin and Nick Carter for the upcoming season. He’s partnered with pro Anna Trebunskaya.

Dancing with the Stars‘ 21st season premieres Sept. 14 at 8 p.m. ET on ABC.
