Game of Thrones: 11 of the Most Unforgettable Deaths
GONE, BUT NOT FORGOTTEN
If Game of Thrones has taught us anything, it's not to get too attached to any character, major or minor, because the HBO series has a habit of killing off just about anyone.
WARNING: The following contains spoilers from seasons 1-7.
NED STARK (season 1, episode 9 — "Baelor")
The Warden of the North was righteous, noble and heroic. So when he was suddenly beheaded on boy King Joffrey's orders, it set the tone for the rest of the series: Anyone can — and will — die at any time.
CATELYNN AND ROBB STARK (season 3, episode 9 — "The Rains of Castamere")
The heart-wrenching betrayal and brutal murder of Robb Stark, along with his pregnant wife and his mother, Catelyn, made the Red Wedding the most pivotal development since Ned's death.
JOFFREY BARATHEON (season 4, episode 2 — "The Lion and the Rose")
Finally, a death fans were actually rooting for. Joffrey died in his mother's arms after Littlefinger and Olenna Tyrell conspired to poison him at his own wedding.
LYSA ARRYN (season 4, episode 7 — "Mockingbird")
Though she wasn't exactly a major character, we collectively shuddered when Catelyn's troubled and twisted sister Lysa was thrown to her death out the Moon Door.
OBERYN MARTELL (season 4, episode 8 — "The Mountain and the Viper")
In one of the most gruesome kills in Thrones history, the Mountain knocked Oberyn to the ground and crushed his skull — through the eyeballs! — with his bare hands.
TYWIN LANNISTER (season 4, episode 10 — "The Children")
After Tywin sentenced his son to die and slept with his lover, Tyrion put an end to the man's evildoing once and for all. He shot his father with a crossbow — while he was on the toilet.
JON SNOW (season 5, episode 10 — "Mother's Mercy")
This one only half-counts, because he did come back to life. But after Jon Snow's brutal death by mutiny at Castle Black, fans had to wait an entire year before his resurrection.
HODOR (season 6, episode 5 — "The Door")
Hodor's death, while devastating to behold, was his fate all along: He died "holding the door," his very namesake.
TOMMEN BARATHEON (season 6, episode 10 — "The Winds of Winter")
After realizing his own mother had orchestrated to blow up the Sept of Baelor — which held with his beloved Queen Margaery — the sweet, sheltered king jumped to his death from the top of the Red Keep.
RAMSEY BOLTON (season 6, episode 10 — "The Winds of Winter")
Perhaps the most evil villain the show has seen, Ramsay Bolton was devoured by his own hounds after seasons of mercilessly torturing everyone around him.
PETYR BAELISH (season 7, episode 7 — "The Dragon and the Wolf")
In one of the greatest plot twists, the Stark sisters teamed up to put an end to Littlefinger's master-manipulation. Sansa found him guilty of murder and treason, and Arya executed him with his own dagger.
