Jon Snow is alive. But also dead?

HBO released a brand-new, agony-inducing teaser trailer for the sixth season of its hit series Game of Thrones Thursday, with the much-discussed livelihood of the fan-favorite character Snow (Kit Harington) at front and center.

Picking up where the recently released season 6 promo art left off in teasing fans about Snow’s fate, this new teaser features mostly old footage of the former(?) Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch staring and standing stoically in the distance, followed by the traumatic potential end to the character’s life from the season 5 finale.

“We watch. We listen. And we remember,” says a narrator over the Snow montage. “The past is already written. The ink is dry.”

Those words could not be a more fitting tease for fans who can’t stop speculating about whether or not Snow will survive his multiple stab wounds when the show returns in April.

The teaser isn’t all Jon Snow however, there are quick flashback-type cuts to the several shocking character deaths throughout the run of the show, as well as shots of Dany (Emilia Clarke) and her Dragons, Arya (Maisie Williams), Jaime Lannister (Nikolaj Coster-Waldau) in shackles and the fearsome frosty blue-eyed White Walkers.

And finally, there’s a very quick glimpse of Bran Stark (Isaac Hempstead Wright) and his otherworldly abilities which were completely absent from season 5. Too bad we still have to wait nearly four months to see how all these things transpire for the seemingly doomed citizens of Westeros.

Game of Thrones season 6 returns to HBO in April.
