The wait is over! (Sort of.)

Game of Thrones fans can now feast on the much-anticipated next novel in the fantasy series – well, on a lengthy excerpt of it, anyway.

Author George R.R. Martin posted 6,703 words from the The Winds of Winter on his website Thursday. The book will be the sixth in the “A Song of Ice and Fire” series, on which HBO’s popular Game of Thrones TV show is based.

It’s the first new material that Martin, 66, has released in the series since the fifth novel, A Dance with Dragons, was published in 2011. Martin has been working on the series for almost 25 years, beginning in 1991 and releasing the first novel in 1996.

The fifth season of Game of Thrones premieres April 12 on HBO.
