John Stamos Reveals the Full House Episode That Made Him 'Laugh My Ass off' – and Why He Considers His Relationship with Viewers 'Intimate'
Fuller House producer and guest star John Stamos watched the Full House pilot for the first time in 20 years before shooting the spinoff
“When we started to work on the spin-off, Jeff [Franklin] and I said, ‘Let’s watch a few episodes.’ We got through about three minutes, and I was like, ‘Turn it off! I can’t deal with that hair!’ “
The Uncle Jesse mullet aside, Stamos did revisit the original show before shooting began on the Netflix spin-off. “I watched the pilot for the first time in 20 years,” he said. “And I laughed my ass off. I thought it was really funny. I forgot all the stuff; I mean, I walk in and say [to Danny], ‘Your baby’s a pig.’ ”
The re-watching paid off. “I’m glad I did because I stole some stuff from it,” he said with a laugh. And the resulting first episode of Fuller House, which reunites the entire cast (minus Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen), “is like a happy welcome.”
The Real Reason the Olsen Twins Passed on Fuller House
Fans, of course, have been rolling out the welcome mat for the spin-off, and Stamos said he understands the emotional appeal of the original series.
“What’s really interesting about this show that I’ve found is people feel so close to us because we come into their homes every night. We come into their bedrooms, into their kitchens, we’re going into their place. So they feel sort of ownership, very intimate with us. And I like that.”
This time around, Stamos added to PEOPLE in December, there’s even more intimacy. “Now with social media, I just feel so intimate with the audience. It’s fun to go back into all this again and be so in touch with the public with it.”
Fuller House premieres Friday on Netflix.
