Chad Johnson's VH1 Show Canceled After Domestic Violence Arrest
"Due to the unfortunate events ... and the seriousness of the allegations," Ev and Ocho won't air, the network says
Ev and Ocho isn’t going to premiere on Sept. 3.
Soon after Chad Johnson’s arrest for a misdemeanor domestic violence charge in Florida on Saturday, VH1 announced the cancellation of the reality show starring the Miami Dolphins receiver, who used to go by Chad Ochocinco, and his new wife, Basketball Wives star Evelyn Lozada.
“Due to the unfortunate events over the weekend and the seriousness of the allegations, VH1 is pulling the series Ev and Ocho from its schedule and has no current plans of airing it,” the network said in a statement Monday.
Johnson was taken into police custody after he allegedly head-butted Lozada, who was treated for a “pretty good sized” laceration at a nearby hospital, Davie, Fla., police Cpt. Dale Engle told NFL.com over the weekend.
His contract with the Miami Dolphins was also reportedly canceled because of the arrest.
Eleven episodes of Ev and Ocho, which documented the couple’s engagement and wedding, were taped this year, according to The New York Times, including a two-part season finale. The first episode was scheduled air Sept. 3.
Meanwhile, HBO confirmed Monday that Hard Knocks, which follows the Miami Dolphins training camp, will “reference” Johnson’s status on the team. But, according to a rep for the network, it’s unclear how big of a role the incident will play in Tuesday’s episode given the developing nature of the story.
