Eva Longoria Knows Exactly What She Would Do If She Weren't in Hollywood
The actress and producer tells people the unexpected thing that gets her excited about life beyond Hollywood
Eva Longoria may be best known for her role as the sultry Gabrielle Solis from Desperate Housewives or as a producer of Lifetime’s Devious Maids and the documentary Food Chains, but if she weren’t in the entertainment industry, she knows exactly what she’d be doing instead – and her answer might surprise you.
“I would definitely be in corporate America,” Longoria told PEOPLE at Tuesday’s Svedka Summer Fiesta Celebration in Beverly Hills.
“I love business,” continues Longoria, 40. In particular, she can’t get enough of “using [her] brain” and says she enjoys producing because she likes the “business side of the industry.”
“I love quotas and budgets, and I like barometers of success. I like measurements of success,” she says. “Tell me what to do, and I will exceed it.”

Aside from producing, Longoria has her hand in a number of business projects, including her Eva Longoria Home line for JC Penney and her Hollywood restaurant Beso, that satisfy her urge to crunch numbers.
“I feel like corporate America is about sales and profits and margins, and it’s really a mathematical formula,” she says. Whereas in show business, “You never know what people are going to like. You don’t know what movie’s going to do well. You don’t know if people are going to like your show.”
Put as only a restaurateur could, she adds, “It’s like, in entertainment, there’s no recipe for success.”
