Aging isn't pretty for Longoria's Ana Sofia in the new NBC sitcom

Eva Longoria may be stunningly beautiful, but the reality of aging in the entertainment industry is pretty hideous.

In an exclusive sneak peek at Monday’s special preview for Longoria’s new comedy Telenovela, the former Desperate Housewife finds herself in yet another dire situation: Realizing the type of roles available for an actress over 35.

Everything starts out smoothly enough as Longoria’s Spanish soap opera superstar Ana Sofia scopes out her script and costars, including an annoyingly bouncy and fawning young actress who says Ana Sofia’s “always been like a mother.” But things get truly – and hilariously – uncomfortable when Ana Sofia realizes the girl will be playing her daughter after her male costar says with a mocking laugh: “You’re not playing my love interest – you’re playing my love interest’s mom!”

And so begins a massive meltdown: Ana Sofia’s anxious escape is blocked by a coffin (nice touch), and when she tries to take off her “turtleneck,” she’s reminded she’s wearing a tank top. She finally escapes to take her age rage out on the nearest trash can.

With a throng of tourists with smart phones standing nearby to catch that final humiliation, will Ana Sofia’s career now be in the dumps, too?

Before its official premiere on Jan. 4, Telenovela‘s two-episode preview event airs Monday at 10 p.m. ET on NBC.
