ABC has found temporary replacements to fill in for Kelly Ripa amid alleged conflicts between her and co-host Michael Strahan following the news that he will be leaving Live! with Kelly and Michael for a full-time gig on Good Morning America.
After Ripa, 45, surprised viewers by not appearing on-air for Wednesday’s broadcast, a show spokesperson confirmed to PEOPLE that she has taken a “previously-scheduled vacation,” and will not be appearing on Friday and Monday’s shows.
ABC also announced that Dancing with the Stars star Erin Andrews will sit in for Ripa on Thursday with Strahan, who is expected to move to GMA in September. Andrews, 37, will be featured on Friday’s broadcast, which was already scheduled to pre-tape on Thursday.
The network has also recruited another ABC/Freeform affiliate, Shay Mitchell, to co-host Monday’s program.
After a four-year run with Ripa on Live! Strahan, 44, said in a statement released on Tuesday: “I look forward to continuing to work with the incredible team at GMA. It is an exciting opportunity to be able to bring unique stories and voices to the audience.” Adding, “My time with Live! With Kelly and Michael has been transformative, and my departure will be bittersweet.”
Meanwhile, Ripa feels “hurt” and “betrayed” by Strahan, but it’s not because he’s leaving their talk show – it’s about the way he handled the announcement, a source told PEOPLE.
“She’s not of the opinion that signing up with Live! has to be some sort of lifelong commitment,” said the source. “But there is a way to go about things, with courtesy and respect and decency, and none of those things were done here.”
Ripa only found out about his departure as news was breaking Tuesday, according to the source.
Live! With Kelly and Michael airs weekdays (check local listings).
