Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray (a.k.a. Yazz) hit the Idol stage on Thursday

So about that proposed Empire concert series

Empire costars Jussie Smollett and Bryshere Gray (aka Yazz the Greatest) stopped by American Idol on Wednesday night to give the idea a test run of sorts in a performance of their song “No Apologies.”

Their performance was on fire. Both Smollett and Grey are recording artists outside of their Empire duties, and their combined stage presence was absolutely electric and something for which we would camp out in a sidewalk tent to buy concert tickets.

“Less than a year ago, I was an independent artist, doing it like anybody else,” Smollett previously revealed to PEOPLE. “I’m a singer-songwriter. I was recording my album in a home studio and then, within four weeks, I was recording in Miami at the Hit Factory with Timbaland and Jim BEANZ [who composes the music in Empire]. So, it really has been a whirlwind.”

Let’s keep that momentum going, shall we?
