Empire is adding another superstar to its roster – Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson – and has the exclusive first listen to her new song featured on the show.

On the hit drama’s upcoming episode – airing Wednesday, March 11, on Fox at 9 p.m. ET – Hudson plays Michelle, who forms a new musical relationship with eldest son Andre, played by Trai Byers.

Hudson’s fellow Grammy winner Mary J. Blige also guest stars as a woman from the past of patriarch Lucious Lyon’s – played by Terrence Howard.

Hudson lends her powerful voice to the song “Remember the Music.” (Catch that and other tunes on the upcoming Original Soundtrack from Season 1 of Empire, out March 10.)

” ‘Remember the Music’ truly exemplifies the power that music can have in all of our lives,” Hudson tells PEOPLE.

“In my own life and my own art, I have always aimed to move past barriers and step outside my comfort zone as much as possible, and music has always been a tool that has allowed me to do so. This song really showcases the ability that music has in helping people to find strength and clarity.”
