Empire returned for season 2 with a vengeance on Wednesday night – and plenty of appearances by A-list celebrities.

The most notable guest stars were Oscar winner Marisa Tomei as Mimi Whiteman, a record company investor being wooed by Cookie (Taraji P. Henson), and comedian Chris Rock as the long-feared drug kingpin Frank Gathers who ends up in prison alongside Lucious Lyon (Terrence Howard) – and wants Cookie punished for snitching on him all those years ago. SPOILER ALERT: Only one character made it out of the premiere alive.

In the end, Mimi betrayed Cookie, killing her plan of a “hostile takeover” of the Lucious’ empire, now run by middle son Jamal (Jussie Smollett).

As for Frank? After he sent Cookie his trademark red roses and her cousin’s severed head in a box, she begged Lucious to protect the family. So he made what may be the most gangster move in the show’s history, bribing Frank’s own thugs to murder in jail.

We’ll miss seeing Rock on screen, but it looks like Tomei is here to stay – and we’re still waiting for our invite to her weekly viewing party with creator Lee Daniels, Mariah Carey, Kathy Najimy, Whoopi Goldberg and Raven-Symoné.

Tell us: Who do you think is next on Lucious’ hit list?
