A Record Number of Wins for Black Actors

Eight Black actors took home top awards for acting this year, setting a new record for most wins in a single year. Regina King, Yahya Abdul-Meteen II, Zendaya, Uzo Aduba, Maya Rudolph, Eddie Murphy, Ron Cephas Jones and Jasmine Cephas Jones brought home nine awards total, with Maya Rudolph winning two Emmys (her first ever!) this year.

The 24-year-old star became the youngest person to win for outstanding lead actress in a drama series when she brought home the Emmy for her role in Euphoria. The multi-talented star is also the second Black woman to win in the category, following in Viola Davis' footsteps.

RuPaul Set a Record

You betta work, Ru!

RuPaul won an Emmy for outstanding host for a reality competition program, breaking the record for the greatest number of wins in the category. So far, RuPaul has won five consecutive Emmys for RuPaul's Drag Race.

Watchmen Put Comic Books in the Running

While comic book adaptations have essentially become their own genre of film, Watchmen made history by becoming the first comic-book adaptation to win the Emmy for outstanding limited series.

The series also picked up awards for outstanding lead actress in a limited series (Regina King), supporting actor in a limited series (Yahya Abdul-Mateen II) and writing (Damon Lindelof and Cord Jefferson).

Ron and Jasmine Cephas Jones' Father-Daughter Wins

It's all in the family!

Three days after Jasmine Cephas Jones took home an award at the Creative Arts Emmys, Ron Cephas Jones joined his daughter with his own victory, making them the first-ever father-daughter winners in the same year.

Jasmine won an Emmy (her first!) for outstanding actress in a short form comedy or drama series for her work on Quibi's #FreeRayshawn. Her father earned his second guest acting Emmy for his role on This is Us.

The Schitt's Creek Sweep

After six seasons with no prior wins, Schitt's Creek swept their Emmys category, taking home two Creative Arts Emmys and then winning seven awards at the Primetime Emmy Awards.

The show picked up awards for outstanding comedy series, directing, writing, casting and costuming, and its stars, Eugene Levy, Catherine O'Hara, Daniel Levy and Annie Murphy all took home awards for their acting.

Catherine O'Hara's Big Win

O'Hara won for outstanding actress in a comedy series for her role as Moira Rose on Schitt's Creek, making it her first-ever acting Emmy (she previously won for outstanding writing in a variety or music program, for SCTV Network, in 1982). The actress is also the second-oldest woman to win in the category. At 66 years young, O'Hara beat out former title holder Bea Arthur by a few months. The oldest woman to win was Ruth Gordon, who was nearly 83 when she won in 1979.
