Winning an Emmy is no laughing matter – unless you’re on one of this year’s nominees for outstanding comedy series. With the same six shows nominated this year as last year, will it be a repeat for Modern Family?

The show, which stars supporting actress nominee Sofia Vergara, follows members of an extended family through their amusing trials and tribulations. It will be up against fan-favorite Glee with its relatable characters and rousing musical performances; The Office, whose absurd boss, played by Steve Carell, has just taken leave; Parks and Recreation with its hilarious antics of an Indiana town’s public officials; 30 Rock, NBC’s smash hit comedy with outstanding actress nominee Tina Fey at the helm; and Big Bang Theory, which is all about making physics funny.

The comedy race will be close when the 63rd annual Primetime Emmy Awards air live from Los Angeles’s Nokia Theatre on Fox Sept. 18.
