"I literally started bawling my eyes out," the actress says of finding out she was nominated
“This year when the nominations came out I was at a restaurant having breakfast with my husband and all of a sudden my phone starts going crazy and I literally started bawling my eyes out,” the Getting On and Scream Queens star tells PEOPLE in an exclusive video.
“We had to hurry up and leave the restaurant because everyone in the restaurant thought my husband was being mean to me,” continues Nash, 46, who married electrical engineer Jay Tucker in 2011. “You have all these people giving him the stink eye, like, ‘What is he saying to that woman?’ “
“I was happy, but my happy tears look exactly like my ugly cry, so it all just kinda came together in a way that was not good for my husband,” she says. “I was like, ‘We gotta leave before this crowd turns on you.’ … But I made it up to him. Sorry, husband.”
Nash is currently nominated for outstanding supporting actress in a comedy for portraying Nurse Didi Ortley on HBO’s Getting On. She was previously nominated for the role in 2015.
“The first time, I thought maybe somebody made a mistake. I was like, ‘It’s a fluke. How did I get in here?’ ” recalls Nash. “The second time around, I feel like it’s very purposed and it’s very intended. I feel like my peers are saying, ‘No. We see you.’ And it’s so nice to be seen.”
The 68th Primetime Emmy Awards will air Sept. 18 on ABC.
